Article of the Week: Many, many jobs in the nonprofit sector are low-wage jobs. As the economic downturn deepens, the people in low-wage positions are often more vulnerable than their nonprofit supervisors. Although the challenge of providing adequate compensation to low-wage employees may seem overwhelming, especially during a financial crisis, the fact is that nonprofits, consultants and funders can consider a number of helpful options without torpedoing the budget.

Funding Spotlight:The Captain Planet Foundation offers up to four funding cycles for environmental projects that involve youth. Support is provided for hands-on projects for children and young adults (ages 6-18) that promote greater understanding of environmental issues, while helping young people develop planning and problem-solving skills. Grants generally range between $250 and $2,500. Visit the website for additional information.
