Madison House, the volunteer center for students at the University of Virginia, seeks an adaptable, insightful, and detail-oriented nonprofit or higher education professional with expertise/experience in volunteer management and support; data collection and reporting; and community engagement best practices for the role of Volunteer Management Coordinator. Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement at Madison House, the person in this position will be critical to Madison House’s mission of supporting our community partners by providing high-quality volunteers able to help organizations and institutions meet their goals.

Madison House is an independent, non-profit organization and serves as the volunteer center for students at the University of Virginia. Madison House supports the work of 20+ student leaders (Head Program Directors) and 200+ student Program Directors who in turn coordinate ~3,000 student volunteers.

Job Description:

This position will increase Madison House’s capacity to connect community partners with well-trained, higher-skilled volunteers, as well as develop our capacity to centrally assess and evaluate programs, and to collaborate and partner with key stakeholders within the University and our alumni base. An ideal candidate would be interested in identifying ways to capture information that give an accurate picture of the work our students do;  helping our student leaders and volunteers understand more about local contexts and see themselves as part of a larger community; and would also be excited about helping to channel our volunteers’ good intentions into potential solutions for community challenges.

Job Duties

Day-to-day responsibilities for this job would include:

  • Overseeing the management of GivePulse, our volunteer management system
  • Promoting systems efficiency, usability, and accessibility for staff, student leaders and volunteers
  • Highlighting interesting narratives using data and volunteer tracking information
  • Understanding, assisting with and helping implement assessment and evaluation plans
  • Communicating with key stakeholders, including student leaders, community partners, and volunteers
  • Managing and advising Madison House programs’ student leaders; providing leadership development for student leaders
  • Helping student leaders and Madison House staff increase volunteer recruitment and retention
  • Supporting projects, grants, and reporting as requested

Skills Required

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree + 1-3 years of experience in related field
    • Graduate work may be considered as relevant work experience
    • Academic experience within social services, education, management, or related field
  • Demonstrated understanding of volunteer contexts in the Charlottesville and Albemarle County communities
  • Experience with volunteer management and online volunteer management platforms
  • Experience with data collection and reporting
  • Experience collaborating across institutions and stakeholders
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work independently
  • Strong attention to detail, and excellent project management skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Skills/Qualifications Preferred

  • Experience in community service, volunteer management, and leadership development
  • Demonstrated academic achievement and a record of commitment to community service
  • Motivated, self-directed, and demonstrated integrity of character
  • Highly developed interpersonal and writing skills
