Nonprofit Legal Health Review Program

The UVA Law Clinic pairs local nonprofit organizations with current UVA law students. Through the Clinic, nonprofit clients receive a “legal health checkup” and legal guidance on issues such as risk management, corporate governance, fundraising, and compliance with local, state and federal laws. Students work with nonprofit organizations in all stages of existence from start-up to well-established organizations.

Clients will meet with their student counselors to discuss issues and students will be expected to attend at least one board meeting of their client organization. Under supervision of professional attorneys, students provide meaningful counsel to local organizations and prepare memos for their clients. For example, in the 2016 clinic, students examined and drafted articles, bylaws, and IRS filings including the IRS forms 1023 and 990.

If you feel your organization could benefit from this program please consider attending this information session with UVA representatives at CNE.

N.B: This program is open to any nonprofit organization regardless of their focus area.
