Nonprofit 101: Hiring and Onboarding Employees

Every driver needs to understand the rules of the road, whether or not they are professional drivers. Similarly, every hiring manager needs to understand the rules of hiring and managing direct reports, even if they are not an HR professional. These rules help keep everyone safe, allow them to get where they are going, and get their jobs done to the best of their abilities.

Join Albemarle County’s Recruitment and Diversity Coordinator, Joyce Ivory, PHR, SHRM-CP, for a crash course in how to avoid making a wreck of hiring a new employee. This interactive workshop will provide an overview of the key stages of the hiring process, as well as samples and templates to support them in participants in their work. This session will specifically cover :

  • Recruitment
  • Interviewing
  • Candidate evaluation, and
  • Onboarding

The integration of diversity, equity, and inclusion based on existing laws (EEOE, ADAA, FMLA, etc.) will form an important part of this session.

This session is for new and aspiring managers, especially those in our Management Academy, and other nonprofit board and staff members who are interested in learning about and advocating for leading practices in human resources management.
