Description

The Haven is multi-resource day shelter for people facing homelessness in downtown Charlottesville. We provide respite services such as breakfast, laundry, showers, computers, mail boxes, and storage bins, as well as administer housing programs and support services aimed at ending homelessness.

Our management team is seeking an intern for the summer, to start asap, and with the possibility of continuing into the fall. This position would be 15-20 hours per week, with a flexible, but set schedule, according to the availability of the selected candidate.

The successful candidate will share an office with the management and administration staff, and have a wide perspective on all behind-the-scenes aspects of running a non-profit–from accounting, to human resources, volunteer coordination, database management, donor relations, and communications.

 

 

 

Job Duties

Primary responsibilities:

Assisting with financial administration of our housing programs, including issuing checks for rental subsidies.

Accounting tasks to track all revenues and expenses related to programs and operations.

Assisting with entering and updating data in the donor database.

Assisting with issuing donor thank you letters and other communications.

Filing

Secondary responsibilities will be based on the successful candidate’s interests and abilities, and may encompass assisting or taking on projects in the following areas, or another mutually-agreed upon area:

Communications–website and social media

Volunteer management

Fundraising events and platforms

Skills Required

The ideal candidate will have a desire to understand the nuts and bolts of running a non-profit, as well as an interest in building strong, inclusive communities, and:

An ability to quickly learn new software and data platforms (QuickBooks and NationBuilder).

An ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and stay on task despite interruptions.

A bold sense of humor, critical thinking skills, willingness to ask questions.

Attention to detail.

Work Schedule

A minimum of 15 hours a week.

A regular schedule will be set according to the successful candidate’s availability.

The position can start as soon as possible, and be extended beyond the summer if agreeable.
