Equipping for Positive Change: Policy Advocacy for Nonprofit Leaders (II of III)
Oct 18 | 12 – 2 PM
This November will shape the future of Virginia’s governance at both the state and local levels. All 40 seats of the Virginia Senate and 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates will be up for election in November, along with numerous local offices. In line with this important election season, the BattenX program of UVA’s Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy in collaboration with the Center for Nonprofit Excellence designed a virtual workshop series to give nonprofit professionals the knowledge and skills for successful policy advocacy. The policymaking process within the U.S. government may appear perplexing, but it can be navigated with the with the proper set of knowledge and skills. Knowing the difference between educating government officials versus lobbying, how to galvanize the voices of your members, what types of tools to use for various audiences, and how to craft persuasive messages are vital to being an effective advocate in the nonprofit sector.
