Community Engagement: A Discussion

Do you want to increase the effectiveness of your organization? Do you want to better understand the needs of the communities you serve? Do you want to be more confident that your efforts are meeting those needs?

We’re bringing together representatives from local nonprofits—City of Promise, Charlottesville Alliance for Black Male Achievement, Lighthouse Studio, and Piedmont Housing Alliance—to discuss their success and challenges related to community engagement.

We will move beyond academic discussions to explore practical cases that speak to the following questions:

  • Strengths: How can we shift our thinking to authentically view and engage with clients/members/constituents in a way that positions them as experts and creators of solutions?
  • Empowerment: how can we re-orient community engagement to empower and elevate previously marginalized voices?
  • Impact: How can we orient your work and measurements of impact/progress from the perspective of clients/members/constituents?

This training is for anyone interested in gaining a better understanding of how nonprofits can and should relate to the communities they serve.

American Sign Language interpreters or other communication access accommodations are available upon request. Please submit any accommodations requests to Andrew Robinson, Program Manager, 434-951-9042 or arobinson@thecne.org.
