Reports You Can Read!

In partnership with

Talking about finances at a board meeting can bring up a lot of emotions. Confusion. Boredom. Frustration.

But it doesn’t have to be this way!

With the right tools and the right skills, any board member can engage in an informed, invigorating, and productive conversation about finances.

CNE’s latest addition to Finance Academy, Reports You Can Read! offers just that:

This program will help your organization:

  • Clearly and concisely present financial information
  • Build a firmer and more thorough understanding of finances across organizational leadership
  • Foster transparency and continuity of institutional knowledge

What is it?

A CNE-approved consultant will work directly with your organization. In the first stage, the consultant will take a look at current financial statements and reports before meeting with the finance team (Finance Committee Chair, ED, and/or CFO) to provide suggestions for simplifying and clarifying the presentation of financial information.

In stage two, the consultant will meet with the board as a whole. Board members will learn to read the financial statements specific to their organization, allowing them to quickly get the information they need to monitor organizational health and make important decisions.

What’s our commitment?

Organizations will supply the consultant with standard financial statements as well as any reports or dashboards used for communicating financial information to the board. The individual or team responsible for creating and maintaining those documents will then meet one-on-one with the consultant. After making any changes based on the consultant’s suggestions, the team will share the updated documents with the consultant. At a regular board meeting or retreat, the consultant will work with the board members to familiarize themselves with these materials and learn how to quickly and easily find the information they need to know.

Who?

Reports You Can Read is designed for executive directors, board treasurers, and finance committee members. This program is only available to CNE member organizations.

When?

Scheduling will be decided upon between the consultant and the participating organization.
