LEARNING
We provide educational courses and trainings, consulting, and varied resources to 300+ member organizations to help create strong leaders, effective managers, and healthy collaborators. Our goal is to ensure that nonprofits, and the people who power them, have the needed tools to excel professionally, operate with integrity, and maximize community impact. OF 2019 SURVEY OF NONPROFITS RESPONDENTS SEE CNE AS AN IMPORTANT RESOURCE IN THE COMMUNITY
“Participating in the Equitable HR series helped me think a bit differently about how we could enhance the culture within our organization…. I was able to make local connections that are a resource for idea sharing and networking. CNE is a great resource for training; the professional-led sessions are convenient, and offered at little cost. I think the most important thing to note is that CNE provides a wealth of resources and support that most don’t realize are easily accessible. CNE is a hidden gem to many in the nonprofit community.”
— Nareen Scott, Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, Administration Manager + participant in CNE’s Equitable HR Series

LEADING
By providing member nonprofits with management and leadership support, we help maximize their impact in our communities. For 10 years, CNE’s flagship Board Academy has widened the path to high-impact board service by providing new and experienced board members with the fundamental knowledge, skills, and tools to effectively lead their organizations, while building a network of community members committed to helping nonprofits do good work better.
“Through the Board Academy training, I gained insight into good board governance, especially as it relates to accountability, transparency, and inclusion. We’ve benefited from CNE’s services and programs as they are high quality, affordable, and effective, and I recommend them to our partners for these reasons. CNE provides the foundation upon which many local nonprofits are built, which is invaluable, and they also enable the nonprofit sector to have a larger voice in the broader community.”

The CNE is a center for
ADVOCACY
We believe in and advocate for a strong, independent nonprofit sector. This advocacy takes different forms, including community advocacy to enhance understanding of how nonprofits work, what they need to thrive, and to ensure that there is a nonprofit voice in community decision-making, and policy advocacy to improve policies that impact the entire sector.
“I am grateful that the city is seeking feedback and am thankful that CNE is at the center of collecting that feedback!”

PARTNERSHIP
While laser-focused on strengthening nonprofits in the greater Charlottesville region, we’ve also been invited to expand our nonprofit support to new locations by partnering with foundations in Warrenton, Petersburg, and Staunton. These partnerships provide CNE with the opportunity to do what it does best—provide targeted, responsive region-specific trainings, technical assistance, and consulting.
