The special events displayed on this calendar are annual nonprofit fundraisers or other events of significant note. Nonprofits can submit up to two events annually.
We hope this will help our nonprofits and local committees plan annual fundraisers – thereby avoiding overlap in busy schedules.
TRAUMA: How it affects you and every member of our community
November 28 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am
At some point in our lives, we all experience trauma. Whether it’s sustained abuse or a single searing event, trauma leaves us anxious, fearful, angry. It can change the way we think. But how? What does it do to our brain? At the Paramount Theater on Tuesday morning, November 28, Dr. Allison Sampson-Jackson and Theresa Caldwell will discuss “Trauma: how it affects you and every member of our community.” They will define traumatic stress, examine the impact of trauma on the brain, and talk about the resulting behavioral changes. They will also explain how adverse childhood experiences often rest upon, and are complicated by, a foundation of historical trauma and community conditions.
This is a free event hosted by the United Way Early Education Task Force, the Community Mental Health and Wellness Coalition, the Greater Charlottesville Trauma-Informed Community Network, Adiuvans, Piedmont CASA, ReadyKids, and The Women’s Initiative.
