Mission Statement

Charlottesville Community Bikes is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) bicycle shop that promotes environmentally-sound transportation, recycles bicycles, and makes cycling accessible in Charlottesville, VA.

Key Programs

Program 1
Title:Voucher Bike Program
Description:We partner with over 20 other local nonprofits for our voucher bike program. Our voucher partners refer clients to us who need a bike for transportation. These clients receive a free bike, lock, lights, and a helmet. In 2020, we gave away over 250 free bikes through this program.
Program 2
Title:Free Kids' Bike Program
Description:We refurbish donated bikes and give them to children 12 and under for free (24" wheels or smaller).

In 2020, we gave over 600 kids' bikes away.
Program 3
Title:Affordable Bikes for All
Description:We refurbish donated bikes and sell them to the general public. This program reduces waste and gives everyone access to affordable bikes. Most of these bikes cost between $100 to $400. The sale of these refurbished bikes is crucial to sustaining our free kids’ bike and free voucher bike programs.

In 2020, we sold over 450 bikes as affordable bikes for the Charlottesville community.
Program 4
Title:Bicycle Repairs
Description:We serve as an educational facility to empower patrons to service and maintain their own bikes. We schedule repair appointments, where we show clients how to work on their bikes. We also have tools available for clients to service and maintain their own bikes (with guidance as needed). In addition, we host bike repair and bike safety clinics.
