Description

ACAP, the Animal Care Assistance Program, an all volunteer run organization, is seeking a Volunteer Applications Intake Assistant to help the Vice President/Intake Coordinator process applications for assistance and to help with general administrative duties. This is a virtual position, but it would be most desirable if the volunteer lived within a 2 hour radius of the Charlottesville/Louisa/Central VA area.

Job Duties

DUTIES:

The volunteer would be working closely with ACAP’s Vice President and Intake Coordinator to screen and process our online applications for assistance. This would include gathering the necessary supporting documents of the application, conducting telephone interviews with the applicants and coordinating and scheduling veterinary appointments. Keeping accurate up to date records of phone calls and applications to our organization’s team drive, taking good notes and virtual filing is also required.

SKILLS:

The ideal volunteer would possess excellent written and other communication skills, have a working knowledge of basic veterinary medicine and terminology, be able to handle stressful situations when emergencies arise with our clients’ pets and be able to make quick, triage decisions regarding pets’ needs over the phone. Must also be able to work independently, yet within a very small team organizational format. Preferred working knowledge of Google Office Suite products (Google Drive, Sheets, Docs, etc) but will train the right person. Must have a strong volunteer ethic, be available to volunteer approximately 10-20 hours per week from 9AM – 4PM, Monday through Friday. Prefer someone willing to help with other organizational duties such as fund raising, information tables, public outreach and social media management.
Experience in health care, veterinary medicine, animal welfare/shelter work, law enforcement, social work or similar background is strongly desired.
