Description

Position: Teen Program Coordinator – Southwood Unit
Reports to: Unit Director/Lead Program Coordinator
Compensation Range: $19.50-$22.00
Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Main Responsibilities:
The Teen Coordinator will engage and inspire teen members to learn and grow to be responsible adults. Plan, implement, supervise and evaluate activities provided within the Teen Program area; utilizing programs such as Keystone Club, Torch Club, Member of the Month, Sports Club, Youth of the Year, etc. Provide quality programming to educate teen members on Good Character and Citizenship, Academic Success and Healthy Lifestyles. Prepare teen members for on-time grade promotion by creating educational activities that are fun and engaging. Recommend ways to expand teen programming in all Core Program Areas and explore new programs or opportunities to enhance member experiences.

Job Duties

• Maintain an environment that protects the health and safety of members by maintaining a high degree of awareness to ensure a clean and safe environment

• Recruit members of all ages to participate in programming; implement fun activities with a high level of energy to attract maximum participation in order to maintain and increase teen attendance year over year
• Provide guidance, mentoring and role modeling to members

• Support youth in following Club rules, addressing discipline situations fairly, firmly, consistently and kindly
• Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality of programs and appearance of the Club at all times; prepare periodic activity reports
• Learn the names of members and develop positive relationships with teen members
• Review member progress, identify students’ strengths/challenges, and develop creative lesson plans that will support member strengths and provide opportunities for practice in areas of development

• Create and submit a monthly program calendar for teen members that support all youth priority outcome areas
• Gauge different member ability levels and create activities that include all members
• Host monthly teen events to recruit and retain teen members

• Supervise members on field trips
• Assist with tracking and reporting program participation and achievements, recommending modifications that respond to member needs and interests
• Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff, Volunteers, Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions, instruct and advise/counsel
• Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, member families and others to foster collaborative relationships with the goal to best support the physical and emotional needs of teen members
• Ensure maintenance of Club technology equipment working with Unit Director to maintain inventory and communication regarding technology needs
• Establish and maintain community partnerships to enable high quality programming and member access to programs of interest, aligned with priority outcome areas
• Assist in the daily operation of the Club to include management supervision and counseling of staff and members, facilities management, administrative functions, and implementation of quality programming
• Other duties as assigned

Additional Responsibilities:
• Participate in special programs and/or events, sometimes outside normal Club operating hours (8:30am-6:00pm)
• Maintain a clean program space by mopping, vacuuming, cleaning tables, trash removal, painting, moving equipment, etc. as needed/requested
• Lead programs in Physical Education, Arts & Crafts, Social Recreation, Character and Leadership Development, Education and Kids Café or BGCA programs such as SMART curriculum as requested
• Safely operate Club vehicles
• Complete BGCA Spillett University courses as directed by the Supervisor
• Other duties as assigned

Skills Required

Required Skills and Knowledge:
• High School diploma required; Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Previous management or supervisory experience preferred
• A minimum of five years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people
• Demonstrated ability to plan and implement quality activities for youth
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience working with computers, various software and internet safety
• Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics
• Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities
• Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, stooping/kneeling, reaching with hands and arms and finger dexterity. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
• Some extended periods of talking, listening, sitting, walking and standing; computer viewing, and data entry
• Ability to work for extended periods at high levels of activity, managing multiple tasks with varying deadlines and attending to details.
• Ability to work in a moderately to very loud environment
• Ability to manage emotionally charged encounters with members and/or their families
• Current CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to be certified through BGCCVA offered training
• Valid Driver’s License, a clean driving record, reliable transportation
• Ability to pass criminal background check
• Ability to speak Spanish preferre
