POSITION: Publications Manager
CLASSIFICATION: Manager, Full-time, Salaried, Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Communications

SUMMARY: 

The Publications Manager works with the Communications Department to develop, coordinate, produce, and edit internal and external written material, and provides support for filmed material. This person is charged with recruiting and working with writers, developing content, including editing, layout and design, and distribution for RID publications. The Publications Manager should aim to produce high-quality communications for RID members and stakeholders which enhance the organization’s outreach and image.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

COMMUNICATIONS 

  • Manage content for communications products  to supplement the Communication Department’s outreach, engagement, education, and messaging goals and in accordance with Association social media policy.
  • Work with the Communications team and Board members (or other film subjects) on content management.
  • Work with all departments to disseminate a variety of information to membership and stakeholder organizations.
  • Support the development of content for web-based media including posts, events, and press releases.
  • Attend the biennial conference and assist in the planning and implementation of media coverage including videography, interviewing, and press releases.
  • Produce  the RID Annual Report.

MARKETING 

  • Collaborate in developing and implementing advertising campaigns and marketing strategy for RID to extend its reach with members, stakeholders, and the community at large.
  • Manage copy editing, graphic design, and outreach for materials related to the RID Press publishing arm.
  • Conduct member and advertiser correspondence for RID web and social media channels.
  • Manage job listings
  • Recruit and manage advertising clients
  • Manage social media, including developing and disseminating transcriptions and vlogs for Board Meeting and staff pieces

PUBLICATIONS

  • Coordinate and manage layout design for RID’s publications and distributed content.
  • Manage the production of new RID Press titles – both creation of the manuscript  and publication marketing plans.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Both ASL and written English fluency required
  • Proficiency in commonly used Communications software and applications pertinent to writing, design and film work (ie.  Adobe inDesign, Photoshop, WordPress, iMovie)
  • 3-5 years’ experience and proficiency in Adobe design software (e.g. inDesign, Photoshop)
  • Multicultural Competence
  • 3-5 years’ experience in writing and editing company communications materials, as well as marketing and manuscript publishing.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher and a minimum of four-to-five years of related experience in the communications, marketing, or public relations field.
  • Proven diplomacy skills with various stakeholders and commitment to customer service.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills
  • Demonstrated administrative and management skills with the ability to work in a diverse team-based environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet strict deadlines.
  • Experience with using professional audio-visual equipment but not necessary

SALARY AND BENEFITS 

This is a Manager-level position with a salary range starting at $60,000. Salary is adjusted based upon the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications, as well as RID’s budget constraints.
