General Summary The starting hiring amount is $18.85 to $21.66/hour for this position. Performs professional work promoting the educational services offered by Jefferson-Madison Regional Library. Works with the Library administration to develop, implement, and maintain marketing and public relations plans; creates and disperses press releases, newsletters, ads, and other public information; promotes use of the library's webpages; coordinates staff social media strategy; creates and maintains visual standards to assure all library locations present public information in a consistent manner; creates attractive public relations materials including flyers, brochures, bookmarks, and handouts. Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Develops and maintains the library's public relations plan;
  • Maintains the library's style manual;
  • Produces outreach content with a variety of communication tools (print, multimedia, online) in support of the library's mission;
  • Creates press releases, newsletters, flyers and other public information materials;
  • Writes columns for weekly and monthly newspapers;
  • Maintains communication with local media representatives (newspaper, radio, TV, web);
  • Assures that all public communication materials are consistent  throughout the regional library;
  • Takes official library photographs;
  • Schedules staff appearances on TV and radio;
  • Liaises with internal and external clients planning events and media coverage;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Skills
Minimum Qualifications: -A bachelor's degree in media, marketing, communications, or equivalent with three years of experience as a publicist or graphic designer. Skills: Considerable writing, editing, content design, and desktop publishing skills; Proficiency in use of Adobe Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, Canva, G-Suite and most Microsoft software; Superior ability in developing graphics, posters, bookmarks, flyers, etc.; Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; Strong commitment to public service; Ability to create online communications that meet ADA accessibility guidelines; Proficiency in communicating through Facebook, Twitter, and  other social media
Physical Conditions & Work Contacts Standard Office Conditions Must be able to hear and communicate effectively with or without accommodation. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. This position reports to the Assistant Library Director and frequently interacts with library managers and local media representatives. The position occasionally requires evenings and weekend hours to meet deadlines. While based at the Central Library, this position occasionally requires travel to other JMRL locations.
