Description

The Intern will be an integral member of the Programs Team and regularly take part in Programs Team and Staff Meetings. By participating in many of the organization’s activities, the intern will learn about specific area nonprofit organizations, the community’s concerns and needs, and the developing characteristics of the national nonprofit sector. She/he will learn general business protocol, professional communications, and will apply research techniques. In addition, she/he will learn how to apply good business practices, the importance of planning, and how to work in a professional environment engaging constituents at all levels—donors, volunteers, agencies, and professional staff. This position will enable the individual freedom to work on a variety of types of projects depending on his/her skill level and ability.

 

Job Duties

  • Answering phones, checking messages, and redirecting calls,
  • Greeting guests at the reception desk,
  • Preparing for weekly trainings (sending reminder emails, printing materials, arranging tables and chairs),
  • Entering data into our databases and forms,
  • Posting jobs and events to our web site and editing web content,
  • Providing orientation sessions to Foundation Directory Online,
  • Assisting in program evaluation (compiling data, conducting short phone interviews, writing reports),
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills Required

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Aptitude for customer service in-person, over the phone, and via email
  • Willingness and ability to work independently
  • Willingness to seek guidance/ask questions
  • Initiative to seek out new tasks
  • Ability to work effectively with others, share responsibilities, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Aptitude for learning new software applications
  • High school diploma (some college level education preferred)

Work Schedule

Intern and Supervisor will establish a mutually acceptable, required interning schedule within normal business hours. Normal business hours are 9 am to 5 pm Mondays to Thursdays and 9 am to 4 pm on Fridays.

 Transportation:

  • The internship site is not located on either University or public transportation bus lines.
  • The intern will need personal transportation to commute to the internship site.
