Part-Time Therapist

Description

The Counselor works directly with child sexual abuse victims and their non-offending family members to reduce the emotional, psychological, and physical impact of the disclosure of sexual abuse and the associated trauma.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide crisis intervention services to children and their non-offending caregivers.
• Provide individual, group, and family therapy to clients of Valley Children’s Advocacy Center using a variety of interventions and therapeutic techniques, including Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Play Therapy, Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI), Expressive Arts Therapy and other appropriate interventions.
• Conduct psychosocial and trauma specific assessments to assess client functioning and develop individualized treatment plans that are periodically re-assessed.
• Assess immediate emotional, psychological, and physical needs of victims and their families and advocate for those needs by making appropriate referrals through up-to-date knowledge of available community resources.
• Ensure clients and their non-offending caregivers are provided with access to barrier-free therapeutic services, with an emphasis on families who are impacted by low-income, multigenerational trauma, and other high risk factors.
• Facilitate group treatment through the Center for adolescent victims and their non-offending caregiver with the focus on stabilizing symptoms, resolving trauma, and developing an understanding of the dynamics of childhood sexual abuse.
• Maintain case files, including case notes, treatment plans, monthly progress reports, telephone communication and consultations, and termination summaries.
• Participate in monthly scheduled case review meetings with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), as well as those meetings held on an as-needed basis.
• Measure the achievement of effective outcomes of crisis intervention methods through follow up phone calls, surveys measuring pertinent data, documented case notes, and appropriate assessment tools.
• Collaborate with and provide consultation to MDT partners, including Child Protective Services (CPS), law enforcement agencies, Commonwealth’s Attorney’s offices, medical providers, and other child welfare professionals directly involved in CAC cases.
• Continue to invest self in improving theoretical knowledge, practical knowledge, therapeutic skills and the overall quality of practice as it relates to child abuse victims and their non-offending caregiver, and the family system.
• Provide testimony in court hearings related to mental health case services and knowledge and expertise related to child trauma, effects of trauma, and other aspects related to child abuse and neglect.
• Collect and submit client mental health data to the Executive Director and assist in preparing monthly reports.
• Coordinate with the Executive Director on all cases requiring psychiatric/psychological consultation. Prepare and present cases for clinical review.
• Participate in regular case review in which clinical proficiency may be reviewed, as well as other applicable professional development opportunities.
• Maintain good standing with the appropriate licensing board and group membership affiliation.
• Comply with all Center policies and procedures, including adherence to the confidentiality policy.
• Maintain cross-cultural awareness in the performance of all duties.
• Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned or added to the scope of work for this position.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director.  This is a grant funded position with the Center continuing to seek funding to renew this position past the initial first year grant period.

Skills Required

Qualifications:

• LCSW/LPC or Master’s level trained therapist who is license-eligible.
• Strong clinical knowledge of treatment modalities and approaches for child abuse victims, specifically sexual abuse, and their families.
• Currently licensed and/or registered for supervision with appropriate licensing board. Must be in good standing and in compliance with supervision requirements if applicable.
• No felony criminal history or history of child abuse through DSS.
• Be willing to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and occasional weekends.

Work Schedule

This is a part-time position consisting of 10 hours per week, which will consist of daytime and afternoon/evening hours. Hours may be somewhat flexible and will be determined based on the client/family’s needs.
