Description

The Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative is a cultural hub for Charlottesville offering inclusive space for creative thinking and artistic pursuits while providing resources, programming, and methodology for meaningful arts engagement throughout Charlottesville and beyond. From a programming perspective, The Bridge leads talks, workshops, meetings, performances, outreach, exhibitions, public art, residencies, and all sorts of unconventional programming that feed the current dialogue taking place throughout the region and country. Positioned at the center of all this commotion, The Bridge serves as a laboratory for understanding and responding to social issues. This results in stronger social ties, deeper connection to Place, more vibrant community identity, and a better understanding of ourselves and each other.

In support of these efforts, the Operations Manager plays a crucial role in making sure The Bridge achieves the ambitious goals of the organization. This work is primarily focused on guiding efficient administrative activities, making sure The Bridge gallery and programs remain active and exciting, and supporting donor relations. Broadly, this covers daily operations, maintaining the donor/volunteer database, processing donations and providing administrative support for fundraising events and initiatives, gallery exhibits, and programs.

Job Duties

Core Duties: 

  • Prepare bank deposits and make regular trips to the bank and post office
  • Use Quickbooks Online to record transactions and generate reports.
  • Manage use of Bridge facilities, including coordinating with programming partners and managing rental requests as well as general office and gallery needs.
  • Communicate with artists and manage materials for various artist opportunities including facilitation of smART KIDS youth programming. 
  • Provide logistical program support as requested. 
  • Make updates via website, newsletter (Mailchimp), and occasional press releases.
  • Process incoming donations using Neon CRM and maintain contact information for current and prospective donors, funders, partners, volunteers, board members, for mailings, e-newsletters, etc.
  • Provide support in seeking and applying for grant opportunities.

Skills Required

Key Competencies: 

  • Enthusiasm: An understanding and belief in the value of The Bridge’s mission and a desire to see the organization continue to realize it in new ways.
  • Data Management, Organization, Accounting: Confidence working with (or quickly learning) donor management software programs like GiftWorks, Raiser’s Edge, Bloomerang, etc. Proficient in Google office software (Drive, Docs and Spreadsheet), and Microsoft office software (Word and Excel). Basic understanding of general accounting principles. Understanding of QuickBooks. Some graphic design skills are a plus. 
  • Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to changes in operations as The Bridge remains flexible and responsive to current trends and opportunities within our city. 
  • Planning and Organizing: Prioritizes and plans work effectively, balances several projects effectively, uses time efficiently, plans for additional resources, sets goals and objectives, and develops realistic action plans. 
  • Motivation: Demonstrates strong self-motivation. Sets and achieves challenging goals, demonstrates persistence and ability to overcome obstacles, takes calculated risks to accomplish goals, and demonstrates flexible and a positive attitude.  Can accept praise and criticism alike and use them to work toward the goals of the organization.

Job Specifications: An ideal candidate will have: Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience), a valid driver’s license, and transportation. Bilingual, Spanish-speaking is a plus.

Work Schedule

Somewhat flexible. Includes periodic evenings and weekends.
