Position:  Lead Program Coordinator
Location: 1000 B Cherry Avenue, Charlottesville, Va. 22903
Reports to:  Unit Director
Position Status: Full-time, Non-exempt, 40 hours per week
Compensation Range:  $20.00-$22.00/hourPosition Summary: 
The Lead Program Coordinator (LPC) will oversee delivery of the range of youth programs at the Cherry Ave Club. The LPC will supervise and train program staff as well as develop and implement a program schedule that prepares youth members for academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character & citizenship. The Lead Program Coordinator will develop strong relationships with community members, community partners, and other stakeholders to ensure the Club is meeting the needs of Cherry Ave youth and their families. The Lead Program Coordinator will step in to lead the Club in the absence of the Unit Director.  The Lead Program Coordinator will support and implement all emergency procedure protocols.Essential Responsibilities 

  • Plan and oversee Club programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes
  • Flexibly design programs based on kids’ expressed interests and the community’s needs while being inclusive of gender, age, and diverse interests
  • Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis
  • Establish and maintain Club program goals and settings that ensure the health and safety of members
  • Ensure that site staff understand and effectively communicate standards of programs and that they ensure program areas are safe and developmentally appropriate
  • Participate in BGCCVA’s Youth Program Quality Team
  • Control Club program and activity expenditures within approved budget
  • Design a meaningful recognition schedule on the program and Club level
  • Manage Club operations in the absence of the Unit Director
Additional Duties
  • Supervise 10-20 part time staff members
  • Conduct program-related on-boarding experiences for new staff and volunteers, and re-training of veteran staff
  • Oversee proper record keeping and reporting for program quality and grant reporting
  • Oversee special programs and/or events
  • Drive Club vehicles periodically
  • Consult with member families concerning member and Club issues
  • Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others
  • Create and support opportunities, systems, and expectations that promote an organizational culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Create, foster, and maintain a respectful and inclusive environment for all people
  • Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
  • Management experience preferred
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a youth development organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people
  • Strong communication skills
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check required
  • Ability to acquire CPR and First Aid certification required
Education and Certifications: 
  • Four-year degree in related field from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Education or youth development focus preferred
  • Valid driver’s license for 3 years required
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions: 
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor work environments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to be effective in an environment with varying levels of noise throughout the day
  • Ability to maintain both visual and auditory supervision of youth members
  • Ability to drive the Club vehicle
