Fry’s Spring Beach Club (FSBC) is an historic private swim club founded in 1921. With more than 400 memberships (or over 1,200 members) including a large number of scholarships, FSBC is an important part of the Charlottesville community. The club sits on 7 acres in the Fry’s Spring neighborhood and includes 3 pools, tennis courts, a sand volleyball court and clubhouse. The clubhouse is used for events and houses the club’s bar and grill. FSBC also boasts a large and competitive swim team as well as a summer camp. It employs approximately one hundred seasonal employees and independent contractors per year.
FSBC is searching for a full-time interim club general manager to run operations and membership for 2 months between June and August 2019. This position will report to the FSBC Executive Director and FSBC Board of Directors.
The general manager would be responsible for the following:
Communicate membership information to potential and current FSBC members in person, via email and on the phone
Sign new members up and welcome them to the club
Ensure that all members are registered in the FSBC membership database and included on the FSBC listserv
Generate a list of members for the front desk to use each day
Tracking member invoices and payments; follow up with members about outstanding invoices where necessary
Communicate information on pool operations and policies to potential and current FSBC members in in person, via email and on the phone
Manage FSBC contracts with outside groups including swim lesson providers, lane rentals, and visiting summer camps
Manage and communicate with independent contractors working at FSBC including the pool maintenance company, cleaners, and lawn care
Work with the FSBC swim team to ensure that the club is prepared for any swim team events and is addressing swim team needs
Address any ad hoc situations that might arise including repairs and member complaints/incidents on a timely basis
Track and assume responsibility for club inventory including pool chemicals, bar and grill supplies, and beer and wine purchases.
Manage and update FSBC operating calendar and website content
Draft and send weekly update each Monday as well as ad hoc notices to membership
Process payments to FSBC and to outside vendors
Track all sources of income and ensure that deposits are made on a timely and accurate basis
Collect and download all payroll information and submit to the FSBC bookkeeper on a biweekly basis
Manage debit card transactions and receipts
Oversee FSBC Staff
Supervise FSBC assistant managers and staff in the following areas: front desk, bar and grill, lifeguards, swim team, FSBC camp counselors, and swim instructors.
Work with the FSBC assistant managers to ensure proper coverage during FSBC operating hours
Work with the FSBC assistant managers to address any staffing issues as they arise and ensure that staff is following proper policies and procedures
Ensure that all staff under the age of 16 have obtained work permits from the VA Department of Labor
Schedule and coordinate member events and classes/offerings
Schedule and coordinate outside events including drafting contracts and hiring event staff and cleaners.
The General Manager must be an independent worker and problem-solver with excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Supervisory experience is required.
