Description

The Interim Coordinator for Children’s Ministry at First Presbyterian Church will support a program of spiritual formation and faith development for children (infancy to fifth grade) and their families. This person will report to the Associate Pastor who will provide supervision and direction. This position is accountable to the Session with the support and direction of the Discipleship Ministry and Personnel Committees.

Job Duties

  1. Prepare all Sunday morning children’s classrooms and nursery with lesson plan materials
  2. Confirm volunteer teachers for each classroom and nursery staff, serving as a substitute when necessary
  3. Maintain inventory of supplies for children’s programs
    • Prepare Godly Play materials for each class
    • Copy and email Godly Play lesson plans and other leader resources
    • Maintain the stock of craft materials and snacks
    • Restock materials for worship bags
  4. Prepare children’s area in Fellowship Hall each Sunday morning (cart with materials)
  5. Communicate with director of communications to promote events and activities
  6. Greet new families who bring children to classes and the nursery on Sunday mornings
  7. Coordinate baptism details for infant & children baptisms, including baptism quilt gift
  8. Coordinate the Splash program, providing resources for families with new babies
  9. Provide organization and staff leadership to the nursery
  10. Support the children’s ministry subcommittee as needed on special projects
  11. Perform additional tasks related to children’s ministry as assigned by the supervising Associate Pastor
  12. Comply with First Presbyterian Church’s Policy for the Protection of Children, Youth, Elderly, and Persons with Disabilities, as well as the Employee Responsibilities found in the Personnel Committee’s Policies and Procedures

Skills Required

Undergraduate degree required.  Graduate degree in education and/or related field is preferable.  Experience in teaching and/or ministry is not required, but considered valuable.  Efficiency, ability to complete tasks within deadlines, and communication skills with families, volunteer teachers, and students are necessary

Work Schedule

10-12 hours per week, including Sunday mornings, typically 8am to 1pm.
