Description

The Mind & Life Institute is seeking to contract, with the potential for employment, a Human Resources professional who can guide Mind & Life in enhancing and strengthening our human resources policies and procedures.

For over 30 years, the Mind & Life Institute has been the driving force in creating and growing the contemplative sciences field. Beginning as a series of dialogues between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and leading Western scientists and scholars, Mind & Life has since expanded to become the leading convener, catalyst, and community builder in supporting contemplative research and bridging practice and real world applications.

The mission of the Mind & Life Institute is to alleviate suffering and promote human flourishing by integrating scientific inquiry with contemplative practices and the world’s wisdom traditions.

Job Duties

Review and enhance current HR systems including Employee Handbook, New Hire/Onboarding and Termination/Off-boarding, conflict management, employee conduct, job descriptions and performance management.

Works with employees and supervisors to maintain consistency in resolution of conflict, performance feedback and inter-office relations.

Meets with employees to get feedback on their work environment, challenges with co-workers or supervisors. Meets with supervisors as needed and advises them of procedures, best practices for dealing with employee management; including leading supervisor trainings.

Leads hiring initiatives to include best industry practices including a focus on diversity and inclusion best practices.

Works with senior management to implement best practices in recruiting, retaining and promoting employees with a focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Skills Required

Minimum of 3 years of HR experience.

Working knowledge of HR practices including compensation, recruitment, staffing, employment laws.

Knowledge of departmental functions, organization and policies.

Knowledge and facility with  Federal and State laws governing HR management including EEO.

Strong oral and written communication skills.  Ability to deal effectively with employees at all levels.

Ability to work effectively as a team member and exercise patience.  Good listening skills.

Knowledge of and facility with human resources best practices and tools to promote equity, diversity & inclusion.

Work Schedule

Up to 10 hours per week.   

2-3 hours in-office hours once per week (offices are on downtown mall) to establish rapport with staff and gain understanding of Mind & Life work culture.  Remaining hours may be out of office. Mind & Life staff: 18-20 employees.
