Homicide Support Group Coordinator

Description

The Virginia Victim Assistance Network (VVAN), a non-profit organization, seeks qualified applicants for a Homicide Support Group Coordinator. This is a full-time position that reports to the Executive Director.

The Homicide Support Group Coordinator will be responsible for the development, coordination, oversight, evaluation and expansion of pilot support groups that will provide high quality services for families and friends of homicide victims in Virginia.

Job Duties

• Partner with local Victim Witness programs in localities selected for pilot support groups to ensure coordination of efforts
• Recruit, screen, select, support and supervise mental health service providers to facilitate support groups
• Develop policies and procedures to guide efficient and effective program operations
• Coordinate support group logistics
• Manage process for supplies and program payments/reimbursements
• Design and implement marketing and outreach to promote the information and services available to family, friends, and co-workers of homicide victims
• Raise community awareness about availability of support groups, including the delivery of presentations to interested organizations
• Develop and maintain community partnerships
• Coordinate any facilitator trainings and cross-collaboration and communication between facilitators
• Research best practices and stay informed of trends, issues, or challenges involved with homicide support service delivery; identify opportunities for service improvement and attend relevant professional development trainings
• Record information on services provided to participants and enter client and program data in software systems as required by funders
• Track program statistics, outcomes, and manage program evaluation
• Assist in the submission of Quarterly Progress Reports to Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS)
• Actively participate in staff, program meetings, professional development, and special events as scheduled
• Participate in the budget and grant funding process, representing the needs and goals of the program
• Assess need and lead expansion efforts of the program
• Other duties as assigned

Skills Required

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in psychology, criminal justice, social services or related field
• Professional experience in program development and an emphasis on delivery of services to crime victims or related human services
• Work experience and/or training in victim assistance, crisis intervention and/or mental health, with demonstrated experience in serving the survivors of homicide preferred
• Experience in developing and implementing marketing plans, public education/awareness programs, or other related strategies
• High level of professional integrity, with a compassionate and empathetic manner and commitment to quality service delivery
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written skills to effectively communicate
• Ability to work with diverse groups of people
• Ability to think creatively about program enhancement and future strategic expansion goals
• Organizational, problem-solving and time management skills
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

This is a full-time position, contingent upon availability of grant funds. This position is subject to a criminal and driving background check. Candidates must have the ability and means to travel as needed, and insurance on personal vehicle used is required.
