Description

The Health & Nutrition Coordinator supports the safety, health, and wellbeing of children enrolled in MACAA’s Head Start program. Primary responsibilities of the position include

  • Ensuring each child receives preventive health care including annual physical and dental examinations, screenings, and up-to-date immunizations;
  • Coordinating or providing vision, hearing, and nutrition screenings for Head Start children;

  • Providing child, parent, and staff education in health, safety, and nutrition practices;

  • Monitoring the implementation of state and federal health, nutrition and safety requirements described in Head Start Program Performance Standards and the Virginia Department of Social Services Division of Licensing childcare standards;

  • Overseeing all aspects of administration and monitoring of USDA/CACFP;

  • Supervising the Nutrition Assistant;

  • Managing a health and nutrition services budget; and,

  • Maintaining detailed records and documentation.

 

This position currently involves approximately 80% remote work (teleworking or work from home) and 20% in-office work. Local candidates only. Reliable home internet service is required to apply.

Skills Required

  • BA/BS in Health, Public Health, Food and Nutrition, Nursing or related field required.

  • 2 years’ experience in nutrition or public health delivery/coordination of services for children 0-6 years of age.

  • 1 year of relevant work experience in a childcare/school setting, clinic, hospital, or a public health department is preferred.

  • 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.

  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and as an effective member of a team.

  • Bi-lingual, with oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish is highly preferred. Other language competencies are also encouraged to apply.

Additional Info

  • Must provide a current physical/TB test and pass background screenings including criminal, sex offender, and child protective services.

  • Must obtain and maintain certifications in Medication Administration Training (MAT), ServSafe, and First Aid/CPR for infants and children.

  • Become a certified First Aid/CPR Instructor within the first year of employment.

  • Must have a valid Virginia driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Must have reliable home internet.

  • Must be willing to adjust work schedule as needed.

  • Physical activity of this position – ascending and descending stairs, ramps, and the like; balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting; use of fingers for picking, pinching, grasping, and typing; repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Visual acuity requirements – visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

  • Conditions subject to in this position – not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
