Description

The Building Goodness Foundation (BGF) Field Manager is expected to advance the BGF mission, vision, and core values, while being responsible for all aspects of the construction process, including, but not limited to the following:

(1) providing complete oversight of all on-site construction activities to ensure the project is constructed in accordance with the plans,

(2) scheduling and supervising the local workforce, both paid and community volunteers,

(3) coordinating all project communications and recordkeeping,

(4) recording and categorizing all project expenses,

(5) ensuring job site safety,

(6) providing quality control to all aspects of the projects,

(7) supporting each BGF Trip Leader and Team in meeting their goals, and

(8) coordinate in-country logistics based on previous-agreed-upon roles and responsibilities.

 

THIS POSITION IS BASED IN HINCHE, HAITI.

Job Duties

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensure that BGF mission, vision, and core values are central to the planning and execution of the project
  • Manage and teach local construction crews and/or contractors
  • Manage visiting BGF volunteer teams in a way that utilizes the talents of each team member
  • Direct and collaborate with Trip Leaders
  • Support Trip Leaders in matters of group logistics and cultural coordination as needed
  • Work with the Volunteer Project Manager (VPM) to maintain the project schedule and meet critical milestone dates
  • Work with the VPM to complete the work within the approved project budget
  • Ensure that all work is executed in accordance with the plans
  • Coordinate sequencing of construction work
  • Ensure quality control for every aspect of the project
  • Ensure a safe job site in accordance with required and suggested safety protocol
  • Coordinate procurement and delivery of all construction materials
  • Maintain in-country tool and material inventory
  • Prepare records of work activities
  • Post job progress photographs to a shared website at least three time a week
  • Maintain daily payroll records and oversee processing of weekly payroll
  • Enter and code all expenses in the Field Manager Expense Report
  • Maintain all receipts for purchases
  • Maintain marked up drawings to show as-built conditions
  • Participate in weekly project review and planning meetings with the Projects Director and VPM
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Manager regarding in-country volunteer experience and in-country logistics of volunteer travel based on previously-agreed-upon roles and responsibilities.
  • Ensure that volunteers are provided with a transformational cultural and work site experience that enhances organizational capacity and mission
  • Supplement weekly project meetings as needed with regular email and phone communications
  • Support the development and maintenance of strong relationships with existing and potential BGF partners
  • Fully understand and adhere to MOUs for international projects that are holistic, consistent with BGF core values, and complimentary to partner organization goals
  • Participate in a holistic reflection process upon completion of project to ensure organizational learning and growth
  • Ensure that volunteers are provided with a transformational cultural and worksite experience that enhances organizational capacity and mission
  • Function as an ambassador of the organization, effectively communicating the BGF mission, vision, and core values to the community at large and key stakeholders
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Projects Director

Skills Required

  • Commitment to BGF’s mission to build community and improve lives
  • Experience working on moderate scale construction projects (~4000+ sf)
  • Ability to read construction drawings
  • Ability to maintain detailed and accurate expense reports
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Deep and genuine belief in service and volunteerism
  • Previous travel to the developing world
  • Previous experience living overseas, in a non-English speaking environment, for an extended period of time preferred
  • Understanding of international development best practices
  • Experience supervising volunteer groups
  • Experience working with volunteers and ensuring they are well-utilized
  • Ability to work with and inspire a diverse set of stakeholders
  • Understanding of the relationship between poverty and the health and wellness of individuals and communities
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking capability
  • Demonstrated project management and/or construction job site crew leadership experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and G Suite
  • Experience with Microsoft Project or Gantter for construction scheduling preferred
  • Competency with digital photography
  • Natural preference for working in a collaborative, team environment
  • Knowledge of construction project management and accounting practices
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends
  • Optimistic and resilient personality
  • Excellent sense of humor
  • Background in French or Haitian Kreyol is preferred
  • Familiarity with standard CSI format construction cost accounting preferred
  • OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 Certifications preferred

Additional Info

This Field Manager will be hired for the duration of construction for the next school building in Hinche, Haiti (~9.5 months). Two buildings have already been completed of the four-building campus. Funding is in place for building #3 with the hope of completing construction by Autumn 2019.
