If you enjoy the bustling atmosphere of a farmers market while supporting local farms, food entrepreneurs, and artisans, this may be the job for you. Managing the Market at Ix Art Park involves organizing the vendor mix and site logistics for each market day, marketing and outreach. Behind the scenes, finances, reports and plans are maintained and developed. The job offers flex time from 15 to 20 hours week. A training period of one month starts at $18/hour. Increases to $19-$20/hr. depending on skill and proficiency.
A college degree is required, but will consider equivalent experience.
Job Duties
- Help review and process applications. Organize logistics for two market days. Communicate with vendors and partners via newsletters using maps, spread sheets.
- Set up booth on market days. Oversee safe attendance of public at market. Oversee vendor payments, vendor reimbursements, vendor receipts. Oversee and/or maintain records on SNAP and Fresh Match program.
- Conduct marketing and outreach for market and SNAP program
- Help with program planning, as time allows
- Take leadership roll in making innovations and improvements in handling tasks.
Skills Required
Must be a self starter, independent worker.
Be patient, supportive, and work well with vendors, customers, and partners. Be comfortable learning and enforcing rules.
Have an understanding of entrepreneurial business, and be willing to learn about the dynamics of public markets.
Organization skills, communicate well verbally and in writing. Be adaptable, and a problem solver. Be willing to make leadership decisions.
Proficiency in technology for websites, social media, tracking and sharing data.
Need physical endurance, ability to work outside in any weather, including heat and cold. The market cancels only in dangerous conditions. Rain does not cancel. Market oversight requires walking over about an acre.
Enjoy an active, bustling atmosphere for several hours at a time!
Work Schedule
Saturdays at the market, generally 6: 00 a.m. to 2:00, with some flexibility.
Thursdays at the market, 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. with some flexibility
Weekdays, about 7.5 hours on a flexible schedule, working remotely
Total up to 20 hours/week.
