Description

Family Support Specialist/Parent Educator (Bilingual) – Exciting full-time opportunity to work with a professional team in a trusted home visiting program serving local families for over 30 years. Child Health Partnership seeks a bilingual Family Support Specialist/Parent Educator to encourage optimal health and well-being for pregnant women, children 0-6 and their families. This position partners with parents to promote positive child development and school readiness. Salary range starts at $35,000+ with excellent health, vacation and sick leave benefits. Associate Degree with Spanish proficiency and experience in social work, child development, or related field required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.  Must have reliable vehicle (mileage reimbursed). Job Duties

  • Attains certification as a Parents as Teachers educator and conducts regular home visits utilizing the Parents as Teachers model.
  • Provides case management in coordination with assigned Nurse to children 0-6 years old and their families, who are low-income and have risk factors.
  • Maintains a caseload of 25 families.
  • Conducts on average 27 home visits per month.
  • Completes documentation correctly and in a timely manner. Assists in data collection when needed.
  • Locates and assesses referrals for enrollment in Child Health Partnership.
  • Facilitates goal setting and the development and maintenance of a Family Service Plan with each family.
  • Assists families in crisis by providing support, information, and referrals to other agencies.
  • Represents Child Health Partnership in a professional manner and participates in community meetings, events, and collaborative efforts as needed.
  • Continues learning through 20-40 hours of professional development each year and attends required CHIP of Virginia state-wide training opportunities.
  • Participates in and contributes to regular monthly mini-team and staff meetings.
  • Adheres to the Child Health Partnerhsip Code of Ethics

Skills Required

Two year supervised experience in early childhood development or education in related field. Knowledge of community resources. Good verbal and written communication skills.  Associates or Bachelor’s degree in child development, social work, counseling, or related field required. Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to work in a team environment. For Bilingual positions: must be fluent in English and Spanish (written and verbally).

Work Schedule

8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; flexible

Additional Info

Must be able to drive own car or Child Health Partnership vehicle and have valid driver’s license, good driving record, and current auto insurance. Should be able to assist in lifting children into car seats (35 lbs.) and assist disabled family members in and out of automobiles and doctor’s offices. Home visits may require climbing stairs. Ability to adjust scheduling on occasion in order to meet the needs of clients. CPR certification required annually.
