Description

The Family Services Manager will oversee the development and implementation of a 2Gen/Whole Family approach to family services that complies with the Head Start Program Performance Standards and the Parent, Family, and Community Engagement Framework. Family Services Area staff work directly with Head Start families to set goals, conduct home visits, facilitate parent workshops and activities, and provide support through case-management. The Family Services Manager will serve as a member of the Head Start Leadership team and will supervise Family Support staff.

 

This position currently involves approximately 90% remote work (teleworking or work from home) and 10% in-office work. Local candidates only. Reliable home internet service is required to apply.

Job Duties

  • Develop and implement procedures for the delivery of family and community engagement services in accordance with the Parent, Family and Community Engagement (PFCE) Framework and the Head Start Program Performance Standards.

  • Manage and support a team of 5-8 Family Support Coordinators.

  • Assist with selection and facilitation of a parenting curriculum that aligns with program goals and family needs.

  • Provide family engagement and education activities including parenting classes, support groups, and workshops.

  • Establish relationships with community partners to enhance family services and maintain an up-to-date resource guide for family service staff that lists community resources.

  • Review documentation and analyze family outcomes for program monitoring and improvement.

  • Manage a family services budget.

Skills Required

  • BA/BS in Social Work, Human Services, Social Services, or related field required. MA/MS preferred.

  • 3 years’ progressive, responsible experience working with vulnerable families with young children in social work or human services setting.

  • 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of positive parenting strategies, child development, and family dynamics. Knowledge of the impact of trauma and poverty on child development.

  • Experience working with children birth-to-five preferred.

  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and as an effective member of a team.

  • Bi-lingual, with oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish is highly preferred. Other language competencies are also encouraged to apply.

Special Requirements

  • Must have a valid Virginia driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Must provide a current physical/TB test and pass background screenings including criminal, sex offender, and child protective services.

  • Must be capable of completing certifications in First Aid, CPR for infants and children, and Mental Health First Aid.

  • Must have reliable home internet.

  • Must be willing to adjust work schedule as needed.

  • Physical activity of this position – ascending and descending stairs, ramps, and the like; balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting; use of fingers for picking, pinching, grasping, and typing; repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Exerting 50-30 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects.

  • Visual acuity requirements – visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

  • Conditions subject to in this position – not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
