Faculty Chair

Description

The Charlottesville Waldorf School (CWS) is seeking an experienced Waldorf educator to help lead our school into a new century of Waldorf education.  The Faculty Chair will work in close collaboration with the College of Teachers to deliver strong educational programs consistent with the school’s mission, philosophy and goals.

The Faculty Chair supports all of the school’s core constituents by working with each group individually and by helping bind all groups together.  The ideal candidate is one who has experience and success working in a collaborative environment, demonstrates excellent communication skills, and has extensive experience in Waldorf pedagogy.

The Faculty Chair works closely with the full faculty, grade school and early childhood department chairs, the College of Teachers, the Administration, and the Board of Trustees to plan and implement the pedagogical and administrative objectives and decisions of these bodies.  The Faculty Chair serves as the faculty liaison to the Board of Trustees, the Administration, and the parent community.

Job Duties

Faculty Support

• Supports the spiritual life of the school in collaboration with the College of Teachers
• Works closely with the full faculty, all department chairs, and the College of Teachers, to establish the pedagogical vision of the school
• Works with committees and individuals to carry out school-wide projects & initiatives
• Supports professional development
• Facilitates the observation, evaluation, and mentoring process
• Manages teaching faculty employment, in collaboration with the College of Teachers
• Helps to resolve conflicts that arise between teachers
• Assists faculty with pedagogical questions
• Maintains an awareness of ongoing curriculum and pedagogical developments in both Waldorf education and the wider educational community

Student Support

• Oversees pedagogy and curriculum development that meets today’s students, in collaboration with the College of Teachers
• Supports the development and implementation of a community wide system for conflict resolution
• Shows genuine interest in and engages with all students from Early Childhood through the Grade School

Family Support

• Clearly communicates with families about existing and developing curriculum, and Waldorf pedagogy
• Facilitates healthy communication between parents and faculty/school
• Participates in ongoing communication with the parent body through the school newsletter, Parent Association meetings, and individual meetings to support the development of parent education

Community Support

• Works to build a strong connection between the Early Childhood programs and the Grade School
• Represents CWS to the greater community by articulating and advancing the vision and mission of Waldorf Education
• Builds relationships with outside organizations, including public, independent, and other Waldorf schools

Administration & Governance

• Collaborates with the School Director to create and support CWS’ policies and procedures
• Collaborates with the Board in the development of long-term strategic plans
• Acts as the principle representative of the faculty to the Board of Trustees

Skills Required

• Bachelor’s Degree required
• 5+ years of successful Waldorf teaching and leadership experience
• Deep understanding of and connection to Waldorf Education and Anthroposophy
• Strong interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence
• Love of working with children, their parents, fellow educators, and support staff
• Knowledge of and connections to Waldorf and Anthroposophical institutions and governing bodies
• Commitment to striving for the well being of the Charlottesville Waldorf School
• Exemplary use of the oral and written word
