Valley Supportive Housing, an established and successful provider of affordable housing to those with mental illness, intellectual disability and substance issues, is seeking a part-time Executive Director. Job responsibilities are to work with the VSH Board of Directors to fulfill the VSH mission and to implement the organization’s Strategic Plan as established by the Board. The Executive Director serves at the pleasure of the Board and is an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Board and all Board committees. The Executive director is the chief administrative officer of the Board and carries out all administrative duties as directed by the Board including, but not limited to preparation of an annual budget, monthly financial reports, record keeping, purchasing and payment of debts as directed by the Board, management of all VSH properties, tenant relations and maintenance supervision.

Job Duties

Work with the VSH Board of Directors to fulfill the VSH mission and to implement the organization’s Strategic Plan. The Executive Director serves at the pleasure of the Board and is an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Board and all Board committees. The Executive director is the chief administrative officer of the Board and carries out all administrative duties as directed by the Board including, but not limited to preparation of an annual budget, monthly financial reports, record keeping, purchasing and payment of debts as directed by the Board, management of all VSH properties, tenant relations and maintenance supervision. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Fiscal and risk management to insure operations remain within budget and to ensure resources are utilized and maintained efficiently. • Development of funding plans to ensure organizational resources necessary to support the continued VSH mission. • Assist the Board in grant writing, acquisition and retention of donors, and event planning. • Work with Board in development of ongoing Strategic Plan. • Enhance the VSH image through community involvement and working with other entities where there is a shared mission. • Manage communications efforts to share the VSH story with the community through various media. • Hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff – volunteer and paid. • Signing all contracts, memoranda, agreements and other instruments on behalf of VSH as directed by the Board. • Assisting the Board in the development of Board member recruitment and development.

Skills Required

Experience with tenant/landlord issues. Experience working with persons with intellectual disability, mental illness and/or substance use. Experience with budgeting and managing expenses. Experience with keeping basic financial records. Ability to supervise maintenance staff and volunteers. Ability to speak before community groups. Must be familiar with QuickBooks, Excel, Word.

Work Schedule

30 hours a week - schedule flexible to meet needs

VSH provides affordable, attractive housing to those with mental illness, intellectual disability and substance issues. The organization currently owns 32 housing units in Staunton and plans to increase that number to 50 within the next few years to meet growing needs in the community.
