Description

Overview:

About PHAR: PHAR is a Charlottesville-based non-profit organization with the mission of educating and empowering low-income residents to protect and improve our own communities through collective action. We are a resident-led organization, working in the context of Charlottesville’s long history of systemic racism which has kept Black residents marginalized. PHAR’s Board of Directors and staff work to ensure that public housing

residents know their rights and are at the table for all decisions that impact their lives.

Executive Director’s Role

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for PHAR staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission of educating and empowering public housing residents to work collectively to improve their communities. The Executive Director will develop deep knowledge of community organizing, leadership development and resident-involved redevelopment, and will implement PHAR programs, supervise staff, and raise/oversee funds, ultimately ensuring improvements to public housing residents’ quality of life.

Skills Required

The ED must be thoroughly committed to PHAR’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership and relationship-management experience, strong communication and collaboration skills, and the capacity for generating and managing funds. Training will be provided as needed. Residency in the Charlottesville area is required. Knowledge and experience with Charlottesville’s low-income community is strongly preferred.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position that requires that much work be in-person, with also quite a few Zoom meetings, including several evening meetings/week and occasional weekend events.

Additional Info

This is a unique opportunity to support the leadership of strong public housing leaders who are rising above Charlottesville’s long history of systemic racism.

PHAR is an equal opportunity employer.
