Description

Adult Community Education (ACE) is a non-profit literacy organization serving adults in Louisa County, Virginia who want to improve their reading skills, earn a GED, or learn to speak English.  This position reports directly to the board of directors and is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives, for implementing the policies and objectives of the organization, and for carrying out day-to-day operations.

Job Duties

Supervises and works with program administrator to perform the following duties:

FUNDRAISING

  • prepare grant applications and file required grant reports
  • cultivate relationships with grantors and research new grant opportunities
  • work with the board of directors on fundraising events
  • solicit funding from individuals, businesses, local governments, and civic and religious organizations through letters and speaking engagements

FINANCIAL

  • Maintain all financial records of the organization in Quickbooks; pay bills and submit quarterly payroll reports; assist the board treasurer in preparing financial reports for the board of directors

PROGRAMS

  • Recruit, train and supervise volunteer tutors and mentors
  • Become certified to administer intake tests
  • Perform intake and assessment of new students
  • Match tutors and students
  • Coordinate learner enrollments in GED Academy with TJACE
  • Maintain student records and report student and volunteer hours
  • Work with instructional staff to acquire and maintain instructional materials

PUBLICITY

  • Write news releases and articles for publication in local media
  • Maintain ACE website and Facebook page
  • Create and mail two ACE newsletters per year

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

  • Communicate regularly with board of directors about the activities of the organization
  • Submit executive director reports for the bi-monthly board meetings

Work Schedule

The ACE office is currently open 23 hours each week, Monday through Thursday (closed on Friday).  The Executive Director and the Program Administrator coordinate their schedules to ensure that at least one person is in the office during business hours.

The Executive Director works 20 hours per week, 50 weeks per year.
