The University of Virginia seeks to hire a motivated Donor Relations Associate to join the Strategic Events team within Donor Relations in University Advancement.  The Donor Relations department is focused on building and sustaining lifelong relationships – encouraging people and organizations to get involved, stay informed, and invest in UVA. This position will be an integral part of the team by providing administrative support for high-profile events for the University’s executive leadership, top donors, and partners in the Advancement Community.

The Donor Relations team collaborates with University Advancement, the Office of the President, and colleagues across Grounds to plan and execute a variety of events in order to cultivate, recognize, educate, and steward donors, prospects, and alumni of the University.

The Donor Relations Associate provides support to event planners within the team by preparing invitation lists and managing events within the University’s customer relationship management database (CRM).  The Associate will interact directly with University alumni and donors via e-mail and phone to take responses or answer event related questions. The Associate will create briefing materials, print nametags, as well as run reports on the University’s CRM. The Associate will also assist team members with other stewardship- and events-related work as needed.

Required skills:

  • High school diploma with at least 4 years of administrative support experience.

  • Ability to interact appropriately with executive level administrators, government officials, donors, prospects, alumni, and development staff

  • Aptitude for exercising independent judgement and proactive critical thinking

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Excellent client service skills

  • Ability to be flexible when confronted with a multitude of changing priorities

  • Ability to work in an environment with clearly defined processes and procedures

  • Ability to work in a team environment where a project’s success is determined by both the individual and team’s efforts

  • Understanding of protocol, discretion, and confidentiality

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Experience with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system

Preferred skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least one year of relevant work experience

  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects

Physical demands:

Involves stretches of time standing and moving at events, and the ability to move event materials as needed (~20 lbs).

Some evening and weekend hours are required with this position. This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does require the ability to travel to attend meetings, events, and programs hosted by Donor Relations and other departments within University Advancement.

All team members must have access to and maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service and work collaboratively with others using a variety of technologies and tools. Depending on the type of position and work performed, or as deemed by manager, some positions may be required to work intermittently in a shared office space.

This position will remain open until filled.  This is a Non-Exempt level, benefited position.
