The Director of Philanthropy serves as lead strategist for agency fund development, helping the Executive Director create a multi-year plan for increasing revenue and building organizational reserves   The Director of Philanthropy functions as the agency’s principal fundraiser, with help from the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.

Key elements of the agency fund development program include: donor acquisition and fund-raising events (Bowl for Kids’ Sake); an annual giving program, major gifts from individuals; and corporate and foundation giving. Supporting elements include: donor stewardship; gift entry and acknowledgement; database management; and donor research.

Skills Required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (IN PRIORITY ORDER)
Strategic Planning

·         Setting and achieving, in close collaboration with the Executive Director, multi-year and annual agency revenue goals.

·         Developing and implementing a written plan for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual, foundation and corporate potential donors with varied capacities of giving, including major donors (at least $5,000).

·         Researches and analyzes our corporate, individual and foundation donor base and recommends solicitation strategies.

·         Prepares and presents for approval proposals for corporate, foundation and government support.   Completes proposals and grant reports on time.

·         Oversees planning and logistics for special events, including obtaining sponsorships and solicitation of gifts and preparing related printed material.

·         Designs and implements direct mail programs and coordinates social media programs with other team members

·         Serves as a vital member of the leadership team by staying abreast of organization-wide issues and contributing to the development and achievement of the agency’s long-term vision and short-term operating plans.

·         Increase online donations and monthly giving.

Board Development

·         Support board committees responsible for planning and implementing development activities.

Marketing and Public Relations

·         Collaborate with the Executive Director and Director of Programs to increase visibility of BBBS.

EDUCATION & RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE

3-5 years progressively responsible experience in fund development

 

 

Skills and Knowledge

Demonstrated success in stewarding donors and direct ask x  
A proven track record as a major gift officer and manager

Familiar with or willing to learn about peer-to-peer campaigns, capital campaigns and monthly giving x  
Familiar with, or willing to learn about planned giving. x  
Excellent oral and written communications skills including reflective listening ability
