Description

Kindness Cafe + Play is a social enterprise in Charlottesville, Virginia that will provide meaningful employment and a supportive community to adults with cognitive disabilities.  Kindness will be the friendliest space in Charlottesville, will serve excellent food and drinks, and will have a designated space for children to play. This summer, our team (meaning you and me!) will set the course for the future of this non-profit coffee shop. We will open our doors for 20 hours per week starting in the fall of 2019. Within 8 to 12 months we plan to move into a bigger space and will expand to 63 hours per week, or 9 hours a day, seven days a week. The Director of Operations will supervise a staff of people with and without disabilities, will oversee the daily operations of the cafe, and will serve as a business advisor to the Executive Director. Most importantly, this director will ensure that the work environment is positive, the customers are satisfied, and that Kindness Cafe + Play is a place of belonging for all.

Job Duties

The duties of the Director of Operations will evolve as Kindness Cafe + Play evolves.  This is what makes the job interesting, albeit challenging. The Director of Operations will need to continuously find new ways to innovate, learn new tasks as the cafe grows, interact with a broad cross-section of people in positive ways, and be able to manage a variety of responsibilities. With a growth mindset, strong work ethic, and appropriate passion for the mission, all duties of this position can be learned.
