Position Overview
The Director of Institutional Advancement (“The Director”) provides overall leadership and direction for Covenant’s advancement and alumni efforts. A member of the Headmaster’s senior management team, The Director develops, manages, and executes the school’s fundraising strategies and constituent relations. This is a full-time, twelve-month exempt position.

The Director oversees the design and implementation of all fundraising activities including annual giving (The Covenant Fund), major gifts, special projects, fundraising events (including the annual auction), planned giving, alumni giving programs, and other school-related solicitations. The Director manages strategies and activities for identification, cultivation, solicitation, donor relations, and facilitates public and private institutional relationships (foundations, corporations, and government).

The Director should possess a strategic approach to fundraising, have at least five years of fundraising experience, and be able to demonstrate a successful track record of soliciting and acquiring major and planned gifts.

The Director is the chief development officer for the school and works in close partnership with the advancement team as well as campus leaders, board members, faculty, staff, students, volunteers, and alumni to build upon the energy and support the department currently enjoys. Providing leadership for an advancement team of three seasoned professionals, The Director will engage, manage, and develop synergies among a dedicated staff in support of school-wide goals.

The Director should have a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate staff, colleagues, donors, and volunteers, and should have at least two years of direct management experience, preferably at independent schools.

The Director needs to be an exceptional communicator, and an organized, results-oriented individual with a commitment to the school. The Director should be admired, well respected, and of high integrity, someone who is flexible, has confidence, and believes in creating an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration. S/He must possess a strong work ethic, be self-motivated, and possess a willingness to coordinate efforts with others.

• Represents the school and speaks effectively at various functions and forums during the school year.
• Writes and develops appropriate fundraising materials including letters, grant proposals, collateral materials, and major gift proposals.
• Leads and manages the advancement team who are responsible for annual giving, donor relations, fundraising events, alumni relations, and the Raiser’s Edge donor database.
• Provides leadership to the alumni relations program to deepen the school’s relationship with alumni and engage alumni in the life of the school.
• Assures stability by creating a working environment that is rewarding to staff and volunteers.
• Ensures compliance with code of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct for fundraising professionals.

Qualifications
• Strong grasp of Christian liberal arts education.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least five years of direct fundraising experience, with a demonstrated track record of acquiring major and planned gifts.
• At least two years of demonstrated success in a staff leadership and management role, with demonstrated ability to lead and motivate colleagues, staff, and volunteers.
• Strong and progressive communication skills.
• Ability to think and plan strategically and creatively.
• Highly organized and strong work ethic.
• Willingness to engage the advancement work at all levels driven by a passion for this calling and the humility to share success.
• Experience using the Raiser’s Edge is preferred
