Our client, Viridiant is a growing, non-profit environmental organization that works to advance sustainable, affordable, and energy efficient construction. The Director of Communications and Outreach is responsible for developing and executing marketing and communication strategies, managing the organization’s events, fund development, and the coordination of sponsorships. This supervisory position works closely with the Executive Director, the Board and the Operations and Outreach Manager (direct report). The role reports to the Executive Director who reports to the Board of Directors and requires various skillsets providing an exciting opportunity to grow the reach of the organization! For over ten years, the organization has been contributing to the community with a budget of approximately $1.4M and a fulltime staff of 11, as well as 15 independent field contractors. Job Duties

Summary of Primary Job Responsibilities and Duties Communications
  • With external support, develop and implement communications plans with cost-effective marketing and outreach strategies to communicate with a range of constituents through printed and electronic media and advertising
  • Create, write, edit and produce press releases, publications, videos, collateral, newsletters, social media content, and other printed materials, including annual reports
  • Update and maintain organization’s website, online publications, and social media
  • Communicate and collaborate with a range of people and organizations to advance Viridiant’s mission
  • Provide marketing support to builders and developers
Outreach
  • Development
    • Develop and implement cost-effective fund development program involving individuals, corporate sponsors, and foundations
    • Direct the production of annual fundraising events and campaigns
    • Utilize Salesforce to plan, implement, and evaluate specific fund development programs and campaigns
    • Manage builder/developer outreach to promote the organization’s programs and services
    • Manage corporate sponsorships and benefits
  • Events
    • Manage the production and execution of all organization events (timelines, content, budget, logistics, sponsors)
    • Building Sustainability Conference/Awards (annual, Spring)
    • Earth Day 5K Race Without a Trace (annual, Spring)
    • Party for the Planet Festival (annual, Spring)
    • Building Sustainability Tour (annual, Spring)
    • Fundraising/Cultivation Events (as scheduled)
    • Technical Advisor Meetings (annual, first of the year)
    • Socials (as scheduled)
    • Trainings (recurring, 3-4x/year)
    • Community Event Booths/Dedications (as scheduled)
Performs additional responsibilities related to the success of the organization

Skills Required

Key Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in in marketing or business highly preferred
  • Minimum 2-3 years marketing, events and/or fundraising experience; Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work successfully
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational and managerial skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent and prompt written and verbal communications skills
  • Effective in managing timelines and project budgets
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously and successfully
  • Energetic and personable; takes initiative and thinks creatively
  • Strong computer skills In Word, Excel, WordPress, Photoshop and design/ layout software, and Salesforce database; marketing software (Adobe) or related area
  • Experience with website and newsletter production and message development
  • Nonprofit and supervisory experience a plus
  • Some local travel to other locations for meetings or for other business-related needs
  • Monday through Friday 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM generally, with some flexible options
  • Promotes and adheres to organization’s mission, vision and values; policies and applicable laws in a fair and equitable manner
