LOOKING FOR A STELLAR TEAM MEMBER TO JOIN A FORWARD-THINKING ORGANIZATION THAT HAS BEEN PROVEN TO MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON CHILDREN’S LIVES. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge (BBBSOCBR) is growing and in need of passionate team members that believe in the power of mentoring. Our mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. This position will work closely with the Executive Director to ensure that the agency has the resources needed to offer long-term, quality mentoring to young people in our service area. Requires some evening/weekend work and consistent, reliable access to a car.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to create a development plan which increases brand awareness and revenue to support the strategic direction of BBBS.
  • Organize and lead all agency events, working with community partners, vendors, other BBBS staff and Board of Directors to ensure success of events.

 

  1. Ability to organize, motivate and lead volunteers to success through ad hoc event committees. Collaborate with the agency’s Fundraising Committee to provide strategic opportunities for increased fundraising.
  2. Experience seeking out and cultivating relationships that lead to increased agency funding.
  3. Previous success meeting agency fundraising goals, through diverse funding streams. Grant writing experience is preferred. However, candidate should have experience securing individual major gifts (of at least $5,000) and donations/sponsorships via events.
  4. Experience or willingness to learn about annual giving, planned giving.
  5. Lead the implementation of donor recognition and stewardship activities.
  6. Ability to work within a budget.
  7. Provide friendly, donor-centered customer service and represent the agency and our mission in a professional and positive manner.

Skills Required

Academic Requirements: Minimum – Must have a bachelor’s degree, with 2+ years relatable experience preferred.

Professional: Knowledge of and/or experience in human services field a plus. MUST have a valid driver’s license and consistent access to a car.

Preferred skills: Experience with a donor database is preferred, but not required. Previous experience with youth service organizations and with socio-economically diverse populations.

Personal Attributes: Must be a self-starter with strong organizational, communication/presentation and customer service skills; have the ability to interact with and relate well to others, and possess the ability to work independently. Our new Development Manager must have a keen eye for detail and a collaborative spirit. Must be flexible; have a positive, can-do attitude; and have a strong desire to work in an industry that focuses on helping others.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
