Description

The Deputy Director of Operations and Advancement (DD-OA) is a new role reporting to the Executive Director, and will hold central internal and external strategic and operational responsibilities for the organization. The DD-OA is a member of the senior leadership team who will work closely with the Executive Director and the Deputy Director of Strategic Initiatives (DD-SI) to steward relationships with all constituents. This position will partner with the board of directors and Executive Director to secure philanthropic support for the organization, and with the DD-SI on day-to-day management of the organization. The DD-OA will be a strategic leader in charting CNE’s future development and sustainability.

Job Duties

Strategy

  • Develop fundraising strategy in close partnership with the board of directors and the Executive Director and oversee its execution to ensure philanthropic support of CNE’s core operations and programs and services
  • Structure core operations to promote efficient and effective systems for deploying resources and personnel in service of CNE’s mission
  • Serve as key thought partner for Executive Director, senior leadership, and staff in considering organizational strategy and impact

Operations and Advancement

  • Structure and lead a philanthropy/communications and program team to achieve strategic objectives while promoting a member and donor-centered culture
  • With support from organizational leadership, execute the annual fundraising plan to strengthen and diversify funding for the organization
  • With Executive Director input, partner with DD-SI in essential organization leadership activities, including HR, administrative, and organizational planning
  • Coordinate the annual operating plan and budget, manage effectively within the budget, and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered
  • Lead the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress against goals for the organization
  • Manage information technology infrastructure with related internal communications planning and implementation
  • Identify leading practices and improve internal systems with any eye toward future needs and financial sustainability
  • Supervise three staff positions, and provide a strong day-to-day leadership presence for the organization
  • Promote a culture of high-performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality

Programs & Community Engagement

  • Foster and grow strong funder and community relationships that generate and support opportunities for CNE to partner, engage, educate, and support sector strength and evolution
  • Publicly represent CNE within the community and build excitement for CNE’s mission
  • Oversee programs and communications for the Charlottesville region with an ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation
  • With program and communications staff, ensure and promote quality, affordability, and responsiveness of programs and services
  • Provide technical assistance and consulting to members in areas of expertise

The Deputy Director has managerial responsibilities and will be a thought partner and strategist in the future growth and development of CNE while effectively managing day-to-day operations as the organization continually evolves to meet the needs of the communities in which it works.

Skills Required

The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in nonprofit administration with a proven track record of leadership. The Director will have excellent organizational management skills with demonstrated ability to manage and develop high-performance teams and develop and implement program strategies. Extensive fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures is vital, as is experience in program budgeting and fiscal management.

The director will be an analytic and decisive decision maker with the ability to prioritize and communicate key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals. The ideal candidate will have human resources experience including personnel, compensation, and recruiting.

The Director will be action-oriented, entrepreneurial, flexible, and innovative, with an unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven evaluation, and strong written and verbal communication skills. A keen attention to detail, strong work ethic, and unwavering commitment to ethical behavior is required. They will bring passion, humility, integrity, humor, and a positive attitude. Work Schedule

This is a full-time salaried position with a salary range of $70,000 to $85,000. The Center for Nonprofit Excellence offers a robust employee benefits package, including 100% of employee health insurance coverage paid, the opportunity to participate in a 403(b), and 120 Personal Time Off hours available in the first year of employment.
