Description

The College Foundation of the University of Virginia, which exists to support the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, is conducting a search for a Data Analyst.

 

This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Development Services and works closely with the data team to provide data support to all areas of the office, accessing and providing reports that analyze and present data in a variety of forms and functions. Data analysis, data reporting, and data mining are primary functions of this position. This position conducts extensive analysis and research to increase the participation rate of overall giving to the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and to strategically identify donor/prospect segments for the College; compiles, analyzes, and verifies biographical and financial information; and creates intuitive ways to represent data to different groups of people.

 

The incumbent will organize and present information in both customized and standardized reports and will also compile and distribute profiles and data points for use by development officers, campaign leadership, and executive leadership. In addition, this position may participate in prospect and portfolio management, as well as in the identification, analysis, and presentation of information about donors and prospects.

Job Duties

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Data

  • Produce analyses and reports, and to satisfy data needs of prospect research, annual giving, executive summaries, etc.
  • Access, analyze and visualize financial, prospect, donor, and development officer data in a way that makes sense to the recipient and other stakeholders.
  • Create executive reports and presentations for management as requested.
  • Design and employ predictive models for prospect identification and categorization.
  • Generate and maintain mailing lists for all Annual Giving and Engagement efforts—including solicitations, newsletters, and pledge reminders.
  • Provide in-depth analysis of annual giving direct mail and email solicitations to support and develop on-going strategy.
  • Improve processes and systems for handling, analyzing, and using data office-wide, especially in annual giving.
  • Collaborate with business analysts across Grounds around best practices and innovation, including participating in presentations and teaching demonstrations to peers.

Technology

  • Manage constituent data related to mass email communications across multiple platforms by enabling efficient data transfer to and from email applications, ensuring integrity of data stored in those applications, and entering information on solicitations into Advance.
  • Explore, pilot, and evaluate office technology solutions for efficiency improvements and data integrity.
  • Be SME, super-user, and advocate for third-party platforms such as Civis Platform, Evertrue, Wealth Engine, MyEmma or Marketing Cloud, and Heroku.
  • Develop integrations between third-party services and Advance that allow for a two-way flow of necessary data.
  • Act as an additional resource for web development, and email and website editing requiring HTML.
  • Maintain and expand proficiency with programming languages relevant and useful to data analytics and visualization, such as Python, HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
  • Develop and maintain proprietary donation platform, including third-party integrations for payment processing, receipt sending, and matching gift tracking.
  • Setup and monitor Google Analytics for email and websites as appropriate.

Prospect Research

  • Compile, analyze, and verify biographical and financial information of past, present and potential donors.
  • Judge source reliability and ensure accuracy, accessibility, and confidentiality of research.
  • Build, maintain, and utilize reports on development officer activity and portfolio management.
  • Provide standardized metrics and analysis techniques for evaluating development officer portfolios individually, and in aggregate.
  • Analyze and inform regional distribution of development officers.

 

 

Additional Info

Work Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of three years of experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication in daily interactions. Ability to clearly articulate specific information in areas of subject matter expertise.
  • Ability to research and analyze both quantitative and qualitative information.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, HTML, APIs, relational data bases, SaaS, Excel, and other computer applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to create detailed and accurate reports.
  • Knowledge of corporate and foundation practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, provide direct support as needed, and complete tasks without immediate supervision.
  • Possess basic knowledge of the University’s educational mission, strategic aims, and programs.
  • Experience with Advance Performance, Blackbaud, or other philanthropy data platform preferred.
