Description

Rare Book School educates some 475 individuals each year at its headquarters in Charlottesville, Virginia as well as at partner institutions such as the Library of Congress, Harvard University, The Morgan Library and Museum, the University of Pennsylvania, the Smithsonian, and Yale University. RBS offers five-day, intensive, hands-on history of the book and bibliographical courses in a small classroom setting. The School is embarking on a comprehensive campaign and is looking to broaden its donor circle. One of the ways the School intends to do this is by placing more emphasis on foundations and corporations. This is a newly created position that will be responsible for providing direction and plans on how to engage and secure funding from institutions.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and obtain foundation and corporate grants at varied levels.
  • Experience and expertise in grant writing and management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to network with large groups of people as well as individuals.
  • Strong drive and motivation to achieve work goals.
  • Strong communication skills including ability to write and speak persuasively about the School.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends, to travel, and must have a valid driver’s license.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree
  • Experience working on endowment or capital campaigns.
  • Academic, library, or cultural arts experience.

Additional Info

  • Research, plan, cultivate, and submit all grant application materials and proposals to potential corporate and foundation funding sources.
  • Maintain a grant calendar for annual operating and project specific efforts.
  • Liaise with senior staff members to gauge funding needs within operations and for strategic initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with contacts at foundations and corporations. Provide opportunities for contacts to visit the School.
  • Provide monthly tracking reports on corporate and foundation prospects and donors.
  • Develop and execute new strategies leading to exposure and fundraising success from new institutional partners.
  • Ensure that stewardship and reporting requirements are met and maintain detailed information in the donor & student database (myRBS).
  • Maintain a pipeline of foundations and corporations and in order to continually mine resources for additional funding opportunities.
  • Other duties as needed.
