As a Communications Assistant for SELC, you will be part of a 22-person communications team working to engage and educate about a full range of environmental issues of particular importance to the South—climate change, clean air and water, our public lands, coastal protections, and environmental justice.

The assistant will provide administrative support for our program communications and digital work, such as processing invoices, helping to maintain calendars, scheduling meetings, and other various tasks to help the team operate efficiently. It will also include tasks such as handling website updates and maintenance, tracking media coverage, helping with media outreach, and managing special projects.

We are looking for a team member with strong organizational and technical skills who is interested in learning about strategic communications and media outreach, ready to dive in to troubleshoot website issues, track media coverage and social media mentions, manage press lists, and research new topics. We want someone who will be excited to manage the critical details of our work, with thorough attention to detail in tracking budgets, organizing travel, and looking for ways to improve systems to help the team operate more efficiently.

This is a chance to join our team of strategists, designers, analysts, investigators, ambassadors, and innovators who work closely together to develop comprehensive communications strategies to help SELC meet its programmatic and organizational objectives. We tell the stories, paint the picture, make the information clear, and reach the right people to move the environmental needle.

SELC currently has a hybrid work model that offers employees the flexibility to work at home two days per week. We require all staff to be vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination to work in our offices. This is a full-time, nonexempt position. For new hires who are relocating, SELC offers relocation assistance.

  • Manage media subscriptions and Cision administration; compile weekly press list round-up for all SELC staff; and manage logistics and materials for press events, telepress briefings, and online press kits
  • Help with general website administration, review, and management, including drafting, adding, and editing website content, and managing online resources and content requests from staff.
  • Conduct regular inventories of the website to ensure content is up-to-date, styles are consistent, hyperlinks are active, and resources are current, and help troubleshoot web CMS/content issues
  • Assist with social media coordination, drafting, and approvals for posts related to general communications topics such as events and awards and serve as backup for the Digital team
  • Help plan annual team retreat and other meetings
  • Work closely with and provide back-up support to the Marketing Associate, including coordinating on invoice/coding

Required Qualifications:
