If so, please consider the following opportunity with Virginia Voice, which exists to connect and inform using human voices.

Virginia Voice seeks a Chief Executive Officer in Central Virginia to assume its key leadership role in the continued advancement of its mission, to strive to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities who require audio access to visual experiences. Volunteer readers and live theater audio describers share the gift of their voices so that our listeners will have access to current print materials, arts and culture events, and community resources. 

The Chief Executive Officer has the implementation responsibility for leading and expanding the organization’s goals and mission. The CEO provides strategic direction and vision for the organization’s goals, mission, and programs in conjunction with the Board of Directors; assumes a leadership role in fundraising including identification, cultivation and stewardship of prospects and donors; oversees the organization’s day-to-day activities and operations; directs and coordinates the work and priorities of a professional staff; and serves as the primary spokesperson for Virginia Voice. The CEO works closely with the Board of Directors to ensure viability and sustainability of the organization.

Skills Required

  • Demonstrated successful track record in identifying, nurturing, and engaging funders as well as creating opportunities for increased revenue and resources. 
  • Capacity to ensure strong mission-centered program delivery that serves the needs and interests of community members with disabilities.  
  • Minimum 5-7 years in strategic nonprofit management, community outreach, fund development and other related fields.
  • Financial acumen to include knowledge of budgeting, fiscal management principles and procedures, and researching and completing grant applications.
  • Ability to guide the Board in understanding the best practices of non-profit operations relative to the policies that they establish within the confines of the organization’s mission.
  • Ability to hire, supervise and collaborate with employees, as well as motivating a strong team that is passionate about the mission.
  • Proven track record in leadership of, and work with, volunteers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
