Description

The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank (BRAFB) is opening a search for a Chief Collaboration Officer to lead in building and sustaining a network of vibrant community partnerships and collaborative relationships in support of our mission to provide nourishing food to our neighbors in need.

Background

Founded in 1981, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank serves 25 counties and seven cities in central and western Virginia, from Loudoun and Winchester in the north to the Lexington and Lynchburg areas in the south. We provide food to an average of 103,500 each month through a partner agency network of 200 food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters as well as through special programs for children and seniors offered throughout our service area.  Total revenues of approximately $50 million and an operating budget of $8.3 million support the work of 53 employees in four locations, including our headquarters and main distribution center in Verona.

Position

The Chief Collaboration Officer leads the Partner Engagement and Programs team of nine professionals in building and sustaining community relationships, collaborations and client-centered programs designed to improve access to nutritious food for people in need.

The ideal candidate will be an empowering leader and inspiring communicator with extensive experience in strategic planning, community collaboration and change management.  S/he will excel in building outcomes-driven relationships with multiple stakeholders, prioritizing complex issues, and leading a team of committed professionals.  Demonstrated commitment to elevating cultural and socio-economic diversity and a passion to help those in need is required.

The key responsibilities for the Chief Collaboration Officer include:

Strategy

  • Participate in strategic planning, community needs assessments and strategic oversight of the organization as a member of BRAFB’s Management Team.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on the BRAFB Management Team to develop and implement a system for results and outcomes measurement across community food distribution, nutrition programs and health initiatives.
  • Work with Management Team and colleagues to ensure that programs and services are informed by an understanding of our diverse constituencies and reflect a commitment to equity and inclusion for all who need our assistance.

Network Development

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of a plan for capacity and capability development among network partners, based on needs assessments and alignment with BRAFB’s strategic priorities.
  • Create and implement plan to develop nontraditional partnerships across the BRAFB service area with an emphasis on scale, sustainability and alignment with BRAFB’s strategic plan.

Program Development

  • Oversee and direct ongoing, evidence-based, client-centered program development, implementation, evaluation and sustainability across the BRAFB service area for child and senior nutrition programs and for health initiatives.
  • Work with Management Team and colleagues to ensure that programs and services are informed by an understanding of our diverse constituencies and reflect a commitment to equity and inclusion for all who need our assistance.
  • Build and maintain staff and team competencies necessary for program implementation and for ongoing capacity and capability development among and within program partners.

Policy and Advocacy

  • Develop and implement plans for community engagement with an emphasis on strategic and high-impact opportunities for collaboration and involvement with private and public agencies and community groups.
  • Lead advocacy efforts together with the CEO, and mobilize BRAFB network partners, collaborators and other key constituencies in support of policy and legislative initiatives.

Skills Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent skills and experience; Master’s degree in public administration; nonprofit management public health or another relevant field is highly desired.
  • Minimum seven years of progressive responsibility in nonprofit organizations, or a comparable setting, with at least three years in a senior level role.
  • Evidence of or demonstrated experience in developing and leading collaborative, community-based partnerships, expertise and/or extensive experience in evidence-based program modeling or design, development and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience building, leading, motivating and mentoring teams of all skill and experience levels; ability to empower staff to elevate their level of responsibility, span of control and performance.
  • Personal creativity and strategic vision with an ability to listen to others and learn from their best ideas.
  • Solid experience building and managing budgets across multiple funding and grant sources.
