BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA
ARTS SPECIALIST
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Hiring Range:  $20.50/hour
Number of Hours: 30-32 hours per week
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Compensation Type: Hourly, full time with benefits
The Arts Specialist is responsible for ensuring quality art programming at all Clubs and coordinating opportunities for members to experience the arts.  The Arts Specialist will cultivate community partnerships within the area of the arts and remain knowledgeable about local community events and opportunities.  This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Job Duties

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Create culture of arts education and appreciation at all Clubs through direct programming and virtual programming that meets the unique needs and interests of each Club
  • Develop and implement highly engaging, age appropriate arts programming in a variety of mediums
  • Coordinate art events for members in conjunction with Unit Directors
  • Plan, coordinate and organize arts curriculum and develop supply needs for each program
  • Requisition supplies and equipment that can be used for all Clubs
  • Train program staff at Clubs in a variety of arts programming, so each Club can sustain arts programs, activities, and modules without the presence of the Specialist
  • Cultivate a group of program staff at each Club focused on arts programming
  • Personally lead weekly arts programs at Jouett, Cherry, and Southwood Clubs
  • Instruct members and staff in proper care and use of tools and equipment; ensure Clubs are maintaining proper cleaning and storage of all art supplies
  • Develop relationships with community partners to bring opportunities for art programs into the Clubs
  • Engage volunteers in each community to support arts-related programs
  • Facilitate and coordinate field trips during the after school programs as well as summer that have an arts focus
  • Conduct at least two art shows per year at Jouett, Cherry, and Southwood Clubs and participate in the Boys & Girls Clubs of America art contest or similar events
  • Develop, organize, and implement organization wide (inclusive of all Clubs) arts event to be held annually
  • Maintain records of programs and work with COO to develop surveys and data collection methods surrounding arts education
  • Act as the organizational representative of any teams BGCCVA sends to art conferences, trainings, and meetings
  • Incorporate BGCA program initiatives in multiple Clubs
  • Support and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the Club at all levels
  • Teach diversity, equity, and inclusion through robust arts programming and member and staff engagement and interaction
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills Required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts required
  • Master’s Degree in Fine Arts preferred
  • Some experience working with kids age 6-18 preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of program development in a youth development setting
  • Strong knowledge of artistic styles, mediums, theories, and utilization
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including, but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to relate with children and parents
  • Experience in working with children and knowledge of youth development
  • Strong organization, time management skills and ability to set priorities
  • Maintain strong work ethic, positive attitude, high level of energy, and flexibility
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail
  • Ability to interact with the general public in a professional, courteous manner
  • Ability to motivate youth in a consistent and constructive manner, while maintaining a positive environment
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
Licensure and/or Certification:
  • Eligible to obtain CPR and First Aid certification
  • Valid driver’s license preferred
Physical Requirements:
  • Standing for sustained periods of time
  • Bending or crouching
  • Irregular or unusual physical movement
  • Ability to provide verbal direction and communication in a clear and effective manner
  • Maintain visual supervision of large groups of youth members
  • Occasional and/or regular exposure to outdoor elements
  • Work in a variety of environments to include those with moderate to high noise levels
