VISITOR SERVICES MANAGER

REPORTING

The Visitor Services Manager (VDM) reports to the Director of Operations and works Tuesday-Saturday, 9:30-5:30, and the occasional Sunday.

This full-time hire is responsible for providing an enjoyable experience for guests in all areas of the museum. The ideal candidate must be outgoing and enthusiastic, and enjoy working with children and families. Customer service is a top priority.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• The VSM provides a point-of-contact for guests by interacting with all visitors in a friendly, professional manner, with exemplary customer service.
• The VSM schedules, supervises, and implements weekend birthday parties and event rentals. The VSM serves as the point of contact for party families and manages birthday parties with the support of party attendants.
• The VSM encourages and sells VDM memberships and works with the VDM Marketing Manager to develop membership marketing materials.
• The VSM processes all new museum memberships, tracks renewals, creates membership cards, and updates ASTC/ACM information.
• The VSM performs front desk reception duties when needed, answering phones and directing calls to appropriate staff.
• The VSM ensures that VDM is a clean and hygienic environment by tidying galleries and restrooms as needed.  S/he will communicate with the VDM cleaning crew on a weekly basis to maintain cleaning protocol.

• The VSM responds to guest questions, concerns, and comments.
• The VSM monitors guest safety and security.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Candidate should have previous customer service experience and an outgoing personality.
• Must enjoy working with children.
• College degree strongly preferred.

The Virginia Discovery Museum provides educational opportunities for children ages zero to eight in a safe environment in which children and their caretakers may explore, imagine and discover together. It is the mission of the Discovery Museum to foster intellectual curiosity and development for all children in our community. The Discovery Museum welcomes over 51,000 visitors a year and in 2015, celebrated its 25^th anniversary on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall.
