Desired skills, perspectives, experiences, and characteristics of new board members

At COKI, our commitment is to building a strong team of professionals and volunteers who are driven by the passion of service to humanity. Hence, we seek to recruit highly professional individuals from diverse backgrounds and skill sets or individuals with teachable spirits that are willing to serve and grow along with the institution. Experiences or skills that we are looking for in our board members include but are not limited to the following areas:

  1. Strategic Leadership Development
  2. Grants and Fundraising
  3.  Branding and Marketing
  4. Program and Project Development
  5. Business and Nonprofit Law
  6. Education administration and development
  7. Technology and innovation
  8. International and African Affairs
  9. Partnership Management

We are dependent on you to take COKI from basically nowhere to a world-class nonprofit.

Annual Time Commitment (including committee meetings, special events, work outside the board, etc.)

The board will have two major sittings or bi-annual strategic meetings. However, emergency meetings, other supervisory, or events meetings could be called by the board leadership as needed. The committee meeting will be decided by each committee. Note: many of the meetings will be held virtually.

Additional Information

We definitely seek to have long-serving board members since we are interested in building a strong community. However, we put into place a two-year term for review of board performance and eventually the extension of board service or termination of service due to poor performance.
