Desired skills, perspectives, experiences, and characteristics of new board members

Wild Virginia works to protect and connect Virginia’s wild places.

The Board of Wild Virginia does much of the work of the organization and is a “working” board. In addition to performing the legal functions of a 501(c)(3) board, the Board’s work includes raising funds for projects, working with our staff in developing strategic and clear projects, and making decisions about the direction of the organization.

Our objective is to maintain a board with diverse backgrounds, interests, and skills so that all of the facets of our work are given adequate attention. When developing the Board we are often trying to respond to needs that come up as vacancies are created. Please understand that if you are not asked to serve it is by no means a reflection of our respect for you or your work.

What will you receive: An opportunity to have a significant influence on a local grassroots environmental group. In addition, you’ll make new friends who are very knowledgeable about Virginia wild ecosystems, like the outdoors, and/or are fully dedicated to doing this important work.

Commitment: Currently, the board meets bi-monthly. If you do not live in the Charlottesville area, do not worry, arrangements can be made to include you or create a schedule amenable to you. In addition to these meetings, we expect each Board member to be a member of Wild Virginia in good standing. You will be expected to participate in whatever ways you can to further the mission of the organization.

All Board members serve as volunteers. Reimbursement for reasonable expenses associated with being a Board member is permitted. You will be required to sign a Conflict of Interest Policy.

If you are interested in applying, please apply through this Google form.

In answering the questions in the form, please be thorough. Please attach a current resume if you can. Again, our thanks for your time and consideration of joining the Wild Virginia Board of Directors.
