Desired skills, perspectives, experiences, and characteristics of new board members
Camp Holiday Trails is a year-round nonprofit camp for children and teens with medical needs from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Our Board members represent the wide array of skills such a unique organization needs – medical expertise, legal expertise, facility and maintenance expertise, youth development expertise and more.
At this time in our organization’s work, we need more legal skills, notably contract and personnel law. We seek to develop a Board that represents the racial and geographic breadth of our camper population. About 45% of our camper families are African American; and the remaining are white, Asian and Latino. Our geography includes central VA, Richmond, Tidewater, NoVA, Maryland and sometimes PA, NJ and NC.
Our Board is compassionate, committed, uses humor judiciously and cares for our mission as well as one another.
Annual Time Commitment (including committee meetings, special events, work outside the board, etc.)
Our Board meets 9 months a year (taking the summer off) on the 2nd Tue. of the month, from 6-7:30 pm at Camp Holiday Trails. We ask that each Board Member choose at least one committee to serve on – and committees meet bimonthly or quarterly (or less frequently depending on chart of work.) We hold one large special event each spring, our Hope Grows Celebration. It is possible to conference in to committee and Board Meetings, and we ask that a minimum of 2 Board Meetings be in person.
