Desired skills, perspectives, experiences, and characteristics of new board members

Tandem Friends School of Charlottesville is looking for board members who will embrace our mission:

Rooted in Quaker values, Tandem Friends School prepares young people for higher education and fulfilling lives of integrity, creative expression and service.

And values:

Freedom with Responsibility, Kindness and Wisdom, Creativity and Integrity.

Tandem Friends School offers an outstanding college preparatory curriculum in an environment built on Quaker values. We are a coeducational day school serving students in grades 5 through 12.

There are currently five board committees: Finance, Committee of the Board (Governance & Nominating), Advancement, DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion), and Facilities. We are especially interested in individuals with ties to Quaker education (including, but not limited to, the Tandem Friends community itself), nonprofit finance and independent school advancement experience as well as those who have an interest in governance and collaborative decision-making.

Annual Time Commitment (including committee meetings, special events, work outside the board, etc.)

Tandem Friends School’s Board of Trustees meets monthly from August to June, with the exception of December. The September meeting, in recent years, has been a Saturday board retreat. In addition, Board members are asked to be on at least one committee that usually meets monthly.
